Right within the center of the town of Baska, Vela Plaza is one of the most famous (and hence crowded) beaches in the island of Krk. Water is crystal clear and usually calm, thus providing an ideal setting for everyone, especially families with children. It always gets crowded though, so that you have to show up early in order to secure your spot and also to expect a day surrounded by other people (mainly Italian, German or Croatian tourists) if you decide to stop here. It is mainly a pebble beach with a few spots where sunbathing on the concrete curb and docks is also an option.
Vela Plaza is almost 2km wide, very easy to be accessed in all of its width and offers a lot of nearby facilities (hotels, restaurants, supermarkets, post office and so forth). It’s therefore particularly suitable for families, people with disabilities, children and non-swimmers also. Water is so clear and clean that since 1999 it has been awarded with the European Blue Flag, a distinctive emblem for clean beaches. Water sport equipment rentals, lifeguards, life-saving equipment and first aid are also all available in the area.
It’s very easy to access Vela Plaza. The town of Baska is located on Krk’s southern tip (just follow road signs to easily get there), and once in town, you really can’t miss it.
