Malta Beaches – Xlendi in Gozo

Rating: ★★★½☆

Xlendi Bay in GozoXlendi is a popular bay in Gozo. It has a small sandy beach and a rocky coastline where locals and tourists alike sunbathe in front of the seafront. Water is pretty clean and so is the environment overall. There are bars, restaurants and all of the facilities you might need and expect from a seaside town. Although it’s a cool place to spend the day if you’re vacationing in Gozo, you probably still have better choices (IE Azure Window, Ramla Bay, San Blas), if your time on the island is limited.

Malta Beaches – Ghajn Tuffieha Bay

Rating: ★★★★½

Ghajn Tuffieha Bay in MaltaGhajn Tuffieha is Golden Bay’s sister beach. It’s in fact also located in the north-western part of the island, just a couple hundred meters away from it. It’s easy to be reached, but not so to be accessed, since there’s quite a lot of climb down to do (over 100 steps). It’s popular among couples and young people, local and tourists alike. Please note that, although such practice is technically illegal in Malta, there might be nude sunbathers sometimes. It’s usually not as crowded as its sister, but nevertheless it also offers certain facilities (cafe, restaurant). A cold drink booth can also be found on the top of the hill, near the parking lot. more »

Malta Beaches – Paradise Bay

Rating: ★★★★½

Paradise Bay in MaltaParadise Bay’s a Sandy beach located in Cirkewwa, on the northern part of the island of Malta. It’s set in a natural cove, which makes it excellent for snorkeling, especially on the two sides of it. It has a bar and several other facilities, including showers, a restaurant and a beach equipment rental/shop. Umbrellas and beach chairs can also be rented thereby.  Not far from it there’s also a Hotel, where a Diving School is also located. It’s a quite popular beach for locals, but it’s also populated by tourists. It’s a very good beach to visit, after having spent part of the day in Comino, for example.

Malta Beaches – Golden Bay

Rating: ★★★★½

Golden Bay Sandy BeachGolden Bay’s of the most popular Sandy beaches of Malta. It’s located in the north-western part of the island, overlooked by the Radisson Blu hotel complex. It’s popular among families, but also couples or tourist groups. It’s very easy to be reached and accessed, and offers all the facilities you might need (cafe, restaurant, umbrella/water sport hire) for a day full of fun at the beach. It’s usually safe for swimming (thanks also to the common safe buoys, very common in all Malta beaches), but it is prone to strong currents when the wind blows from the north-west. A red flag indicates when sea is rough and it’s better to stay in the shallow waters only. A little bit of action in the sea could be fun if you like do body-surf or do some boogie boarding though; swell can get decent in those conditions.
