Unnamed Bay near Stara Baska (Island of Krk)

Rating: At about 10 km south of Punat, right between famous Oprna Bay and the Škrila camping site in Stara Baska, lies this unnamed pebbly beach, where a good day at the beach (and some good trekking) are both guaranteed. You can sunbathe, swim or snorkel within this unspoiled environment. There are no shops, bars or facilities around, so that you have to make sure you bring everything you need before you get there. If you forget something, you might be lucky enough to find it at the nearby camping site, but it’s still going to cost a good 30 [ ... ]

Vela Plaza in Baska, Island of Krk

Rating: Right within the center of the town of Baska, Vela Plaza is one of the most famous (and hence crowded) beaches in the island of Krk. Water is crystal clear and usually calm, thus providing an ideal setting for everyone, especially families with children. It always gets crowded though, so that you have to show up early in order to secure your spot and also to expect a day surrounded by other people (mainly Italian, German or Croatian tourists) if you decide to stop here. It is mainly a pebble beach with a few spots where sunbathing on the [ ... ]

Croatia Beaches – Storišće (Island of Krk)

Rating: Storišće is a nice little pebble beach in the island of Krk. It’s located not too far from the FKK Banculuka naturist camp and can be reached either from there or by boat. If you decide to get there from ground, be prepared to walk (for quite a lot and following a winding, offroad path), since there’s no way to access it by car. There are also no facilities within its premises, so you have to make sure you bring everything you need (especially drinks, since the road to get there is pretty rough and long, especially under striking [ ... ]

Malta Beaches – Mistra Bay

Rating: Mistra Bay is a pebble beach located between Xemxija Bay and Selmun. It is more common among locals rather than tourists, to the point that many tourist maps do not even mention it. It’s not large and is usually overtaken by Maltese, so that you have to show up early if you really want to spend the day there. There are a few facilities in the area, such as a restaurant and a bistro just across the road from the bay. It might be good choice if you wish to experience a “Maltese day at the beach”, but my [ ... ]

Malta Beaches – Xlendi in Gozo

Rating: Xlendi is a popular bay in Gozo. It has a small sandy beach and a rocky coastline where locals and tourists alike sunbathe in front of the seafront. Water is pretty clean and so is the environment overall. There are bars, restaurants and all of the facilities you might need and expect from a seaside town. Although it’s a cool place to spend the day if you’re vacationing in Gozo, you probably still have better choices (IE Azure Window, Ramla Bay, San Blas), if your time on the island is limited. Malta Beaches – Anchor Bay

Rating: Anchor Bay is a small bay located approximately one km west of the village of Mellieha, which was named after the countless anchors which have been found in the bay. Nowadays it’s mostly known for Popeye Village, which was used as the set for the 1980 Hollywood musical Popeye, starring Robin Williams as Popeye. The bay itself is quite isolated and not very popular, either with locals or tourists. Water is clear though and sea conditions are usually adequate for swimming. It’s an even better location for divers, because of the many caves. Although not famous for it, it might [ ... ]

Malta Beaches – Ghajn Tuffieha Bay

Rating: Ghajn Tuffieha is Golden Bay’s sister beach. It’s in fact also located in the north-western part of the island, just a couple hundred meters away from it. It’s easy to be reached, but not so to be accessed, since there’s quite a lot of climb down to do (over 100 steps). It’s popular among couples and young people, local and tourists alike. Please note that, although such practice is technically illegal in Malta, there might be nude sunbathers sometimes. It’s usually not as crowded as its sister, but nevertheless it also offers certain facilities (cafe, restaurant). A cold drink [ ... ]
